Through the days of GameCube, GameBoy, Entertainment System and the DS line, there was really little between the likes of Nintendo, Microsoft (Xbox) and Sony (PS) in video gaming. That was until the Wii came along, and then BANG! By now, few true-blue video gamers would dispute that Nintendo has clearly surged ahead.

Needless to say, the video game industry is highly lucrative and everybody wants a bite of the pie. To occupy pole position, the Nintendo Wii had to be top-notch as a lifestyle item. It is multimedia, personal computer, internet browser, communication device and most of all, the mother of all video game consoles, all-in-one.

The magic of Nintendo Wii Games is not as much in the games per se as it is in the way they are played. The intuitive remote controller is enabled by its unique motion sensing technology in 3-D, giving it the feeling of the real thing, complete with actual bodily motion and exercise as opposed to the traditional video game serving of buttons and joysticks, always played seated.

The Nintendo Wii Console is basically just a very ordinary processing station. It is the wireless remote controller that is the wizard of Nintendo Wii gaming. Depending on the game in play, it can be a sports gear or an adventure weapon or anything. When used in conjunction with the Nunchuck secondary controller, it sends gamers on highs that are potentially addictive or compulsive, so watch out!

Unlike its predecessors, the Nintendo Wii is not predominantly kiddy. In fact, a good percentage of the most ardent Wii rockers are very matured and sophisticated adults. The range of Nintendo Wii Games caters to all ages and background. They include sports, action, cards, gambling, puzzles, strategy and many others. To-date, there are hundreds of different games to choose from, and counting.

Another key feature of the Nintendo Wii is its backward compatibility. Old favorites and classics of GameCube and Nintendo Entertainment System line are widely available in retro. Some can even be directly played with the new remote controller. GameCube controller ports are designed in and the media bay will accept GameCube discs automatically also.

Given that Nintendo Wii Games are considered as a technology item, it's surprising that they are still primarily sold through brick and mortar channels. Wii Virtual Console is also offered on their online Wii Shop Channel but the one that's really catching on fast is the commercial download service. Many are already in full swing online and it's easy to understand their popularity on seeing their fees.
