Should I switch from PC to iMac or Macbook Pro for Home Computer?

I'm looking for advice from the mac experts out there.

I am an IT professional who has been using Microsoft based PCs for 12 + years. While I'm by no means a microsoft fan, I XP Pro does everything I need it do.

I'm thinking of switching to iMac or Macbook Pro so home computing will be "fun" again. But as I read forums and product reviews on Apple's websites I'm scared to switch.

I want to use a new mac for light photo editing & organizing, creating movies from camcorder to DVD with menu chapters, creating basic web pages, and creating spreadsheets & documents.

Here are my questions:
For light editing is Aperture 2.0 worth $200 or is iPhoto sufficient?
Is iMovie 08 as bad as all the reviews on Apple's website?
What to people think of iWeb?
Are iMacs any more/less reliable then Macbook Pros?
Is iWork 08 worth $80?
It sounds like (in the Apple reviews) Apple software has just as many problems as software for PCs, what are peoples thoughts on this?

If you're an IT professional, you should really want a Mac. OS X doesn't have the wierdness in it's TCP stack that Windows does.

If you want ot make moves, use iDVD. It comes built into the OS and its more than sufficient for most.

If you're editing photos, you can use iPhoto or get GIMP which is free.

I don't really care for iWeb. I'd much rather use Dreamweaver and manage my own web site.

I like the MacBookPro's because the screen size is bigger.

I don't really like iWork. We use Office for Mac and I've not really had any complaints. You could always use Open Office, which is also free.

Apples are MUCH less problematic than PC's. I know I use both every day.
