How do I turn a black background transparent on a photo in corel paint shop pro?

I am trying to make a shirt on cafepress.com for a black shirt. I have a picture of someones face thats black and white and the face is white and the background is all black. How do I change it so the black is transparent and leave only the white on corel paint shop pro. If it can be done on something else that I can get for free I'd love that too.

Use the Magic Wand. It selects by color. Click in the black areas. Expand the selection 1 pixel (if it doesn't interfere with your design) and press Delete on the keyboard. To preserve the transparency, save with File>Export>Gif Optimizer. If you save in jpg, the transparency you've made will be saved as white and your design will disappear.
