How To Protect Yourself From Computer Identity Theft

by REx Simpleton

There are some things anyone should know to protect themselves from computer identity theft. Online identity stealing is very common and it may affect you both morally and financially. If you know some tips, however, you can be sure that your identity is safe.

Use a good password

Make sure that you use different passwords for different accounts. If you only use one password, you risk having all of your accounts taken, especially if the thief knows that you are having other accounts. Make sure that you don’t use passwords that are easy to guess like “password12″ or something similar. Also, don’t use your birthday, last name, your spouse’s birthday, etc. because those are the easiest to guess. The best password you can get is to use a phrase like “the black kitty drinks milk 3 times a day” and make “tbkdm3tad”. That is one of the strong passwords.

If you have more than one credit card, make sure that you only use one for your online transaction. So, it something happens and you have online transactions on the other credit cards you will surely know that it has to do with fraud.

Make use of a credit card rather than a debit card. Though many debit cards have online purchase safety steps, it is easier to fight fake charges than to refund debit card finances already used. When you make online transactions ensure that it is safe. If you are making your first transaction on the internet, make sure that the company you are dealing with is someone familiar or referred to you by a trusted one.

When buying from a certain site make sure that they guarantee your privacy in order to ensure that you identity is safe. Also check the logos of the companies and make sure that they are original.

You may receive emails that will tell you to update or change your email account, or you may receive emails that concern your credit card; my advice is to ignore and not to open those emails because they are fake.

Although there are many ways that thieves use to steal your private information, using these tips will surely help you protect yourself from the most common attacks.
