Been hearing about the Conflicker worm a lot. Is my computer decently protected?

I use McAfee VirusScan Plus which protects Computer & Files, Internet & Network, and E-mail & IM. I also use the full version of PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

Step 1
Install McAfee VirusScan Plus on your computer. You can use the software CD purchased at a computer dealer. Or you can install a downloaded purchase from McAfee directly. VirusScan Plus requires 125 MB hard disk space for installation (75 MB after). You'll need at least 256 MB of RAM and a processor with 300 megahertz for Windows 2000 or XP. Vista will require 512 MB of RAM and an 800 megahertz processor.
Step 2
Access SecurityCenter from your programs menu. From here you can directly manage your McAfee products.
Step 3
Register your VirusScan copy with McAfee using your email address. You'll get a 1-year subscription of virus definitions and updates.
Step 4
Check the security status on the top window with the large circle. A green circle indicates the system is okay; a yellow or red circle indicates problems.
Step 5
Click the "Fix" icon to update the virus definitions and correct security problems. If problems persist, click on the link to receive instructions.
Step 6
Scan for viruses in Windows Explorer by going to the "My Computer" option. Right-click on the drive or folder to scan and select Scan on the pop-up menu. You'll receive a report of infected files when the scan completes
Step 7
Scan the entire computer by selecting the McAfee (red M) icon in the system tray and clicking "Scan." All drives and folders will be selected by default, but you can choose which ones to not scan before clicking "Scan Now."

In the same light, only safe data or data that you permit will be allowed into your system.

Windows users will have Windows Defender as their built-in firewall. It needs to be updated regularly using the Windows Update service. But you can buy a third-party firewall if you want more protection. If you are the administrator of a network, you can also install hardware to augment your firewall.

3. Spyware scanner. The last piece of essential software that you should have is a spyware scanner. When we surf the Internet, we sometimes visit websites that are not as straightforward and trustworthy as we want them to be. A spyware scanner will block any malware or spyware that will try to wriggle its way into your computer through the Internet.

The Internet can be a scary place. If you do not exercise caution in implementing your computer security, you run the risk of destroying your computer with malware eroding your system. Data loss can be undone by a successful attempt at data retrieval, but it can be very costly. Nonetheless, this cost is nothing if you become a victim of identity theft and you lose all your money.
