How To Protect Yourself From Computer Identity Theft

by REx Simpleton

There are some things anyone should know to protect themselves from computer identity theft. Online identity stealing is very common and it may affect you both morally and financially. If you know some tips, however, you can be sure that your identity is safe.

Use a good password

Make sure that you use different passwords for different accounts. If you only use one password, you risk having all of your accounts taken, especially if the thief knows that you are having other accounts. Make sure that you don’t use passwords that are easy to guess like “password12″ or something similar. Also, don’t use your birthday, last name, your spouse’s birthday, etc. because those are the easiest to guess. The best password you can get is to use a phrase like “the black kitty drinks milk 3 times a day” and make “tbkdm3tad”. That is one of the strong passwords.

If you have more than one credit card, make sure that you only use one for your online transaction. So, it something happens and you have online transactions on the other credit cards you will surely know that it has to do with fraud.

Make use of a credit card rather than a debit card. Though many debit cards have online purchase safety steps, it is easier to fight fake charges than to refund debit card finances already used. When you make online transactions ensure that it is safe. If you are making your first transaction on the internet, make sure that the company you are dealing with is someone familiar or referred to you by a trusted one.

When buying from a certain site make sure that they guarantee your privacy in order to ensure that you identity is safe. Also check the logos of the companies and make sure that they are original.

You may receive emails that will tell you to update or change your email account, or you may receive emails that concern your credit card; my advice is to ignore and not to open those emails because they are fake.

Although there are many ways that thieves use to steal your private information, using these tips will surely help you protect yourself from the most common attacks.

How To Select The Right Security System

Finding home security depends on you, where you live, and what you expect. If you want ultimate home security, you can max out by taking extra precautions, as well as installing proper security systems. Realize that life does not promise us total security; therefore, you want to focus on max security that the nature will allow. To discover your max security we can consider the area you live.

What type of neighborhood do you live in? Do you live in a high crime area? Is your area regulated properly by the law? Do you feel safe and comfortable in your own neighborhood?

Knowing what type of neighborhood you live in can help you make a good decision. If you live in a drug trafficking neighborhood, you want to add quality-home security systems to your home. The world is populated with gangs, drugs, crime, sex offenders, etc. Therefore, think…It is no such thing as too much security. Home security systems are available online.

How can I choose the right security system? Firstly, you must take into account that there is a large variety of home security systems available. You can research the market to decide which type of system you may prefer. The types of home security systems include warning signs and decals, remote monitoring, wireless security, smoke and fire detectors, CO Alarms, video surveillance, voice dialers, security cameras, security alarm system, environmental sensors, dummy cameras, driveway alarms, voice intercoms, sirens and strobe lights, etc. You will find a wide array of products online, including Pepper Spray and Mace.

A home security system isn’t just for citizens in high-crime areas. For suburban homes where the whole neighborhood seems to empty during the day, a security system may be a good choice. A home security system equipped with a good camera can do a lot for your house. You can use it to see who is at the door before opening, you can keep an eye on driveways to watch vehicles and equipment and most importantly you can check on any trespassers. You can save money on your homeowner’s insurance costs by installing a home security system. cctv

How can I learn what the security devices can do to secure my home? You can go online to learn more about the products available. In addition, I can give you a bit of details on a few items. Dummy cameras only make prowlers think that a real camera is watching them. This works in some areas, however if you are in a high crime based area, dummy cameras will not convince intense and experienced criminals.

Video surveillance equipment is helpful, since the equipment monitors your home, office, etc. The video equipment includes Micro Eye systems. The videos capture prowlers and mechanically records quick actions by photographing the prowler. You can activate and replay the video image in live motion. This solution provides great home security, however it will not provide you maximum security. You could consider video surveillance coupled with alarm systems. The alarms tend to scare prowlers more so than cameras. security systems

Note: Never purchase home security systems where the devices are wired outside of your home. While many people do this, expert criminals are pros at disengaging the products, to complete their mission.

Siren and strobe lights are handy security devices. Anytime you shine light upon an intruder or cause a loud noise or ruckus, most burglars will take flight. Of course, you want to complete your home security sound and light system with quality home security systems. You can purchase Sirens for as low as $17.50, thus this leads me to believe that you will need compliments to get max home security.

TIP: Sensor lights are ideal home security compliments. You can add sensor lights to your porch, or areas of entrance. The lights automatically come on when someone access control

The Players In Antivirus Industry

Everyone in the United States has heard of the leading antivirus vendors Symantec, Mcafee, Computer Associates, and Trend Micro. These companies have market-leading presence in the United States. Microsoft, as well, has plans become a key player in this market. Microsoft acquired intellectual property and technology from GeCad software in 2003, a company based in Bucharest, Romania. They also acquired Pelican Software, which had a behavior based security as well as Giant Company Software for spyware and Sybari Software, which manages virus, spam, and phishing filtering.

The Players in Antivirus Industry
A lot of discussion has centered on whether Microsoft with come to own a dominant position in the antivirus market by simply bundling its technologies with its operating systems at no charge. This is a similar technique applied in other markets such as word processing and Internet browsers.

Of course there are a number of antivirus vendors who also play in this market. There are many companies with great market presence in other countries that are beginning to become more widely known. These vendors include GriSoft out of the Czech Republic, Sophos in the united Kingdom, Panda Software out of Spain, Kaspersky in Russia, SoftWin in Romania, F-Secure in Finland, Norman in Norway, Arcabit in Poland, VirusBuster out of Hungary, and AhnLab in South Korea.

It is not clear where the industry is heading and everyone in this market faces a rapidly changing landscape. The amount of effort to find and provide fixes for viruses is staggering. Malicious programs are getting more complex and the number of them is increasing. Many companies may find themselves without the resources to match the efforts of those truly bent on creating havoc. Some virus companies are getting of hundreds of new samples a day! Moreover, the new viruses are getting “smarter” in that they propagate themselves quickly and they often hide themselves and are smart enough to move around in a system by renaming themselves in an effort to make it hard to remove them. Spyware - Its Effects And How To Cure Them

If you are concerned about the effects of spyware, you will be interested in this article. What I am going to cover here is the specific effects that spyware has on your computer. I’m going to give you a bit of background information about spyware, before covering how it threatens you personally. I’m also going to cover the advertising that Spyware bombards onto infected computers. By the end of the article, you will know a lot more about spyware and the risks entailed.

Spyware is a fairly recent phenomenon, and it does not have a long and detailed history. In 2000, a company called Zone Labs released an updated version of their popular firewall program, known as Zone Alert. In a press release describing the software, the term Spyware was used for the first time. By 2005, 62% of all Internet users have become infected. This means that there is a better than even chance that you have been infected, too! Most people who are infected (over 90% according to AOL) are unaware of the infection.

In balance, the threat posed by spyware is considered to be one of the greatest ever faced by Internet users.

But what is the nature of the threat? What does the spyware actually do?

Well, firstly, it is possible to design the spyware to help commit identity theft! The spyware can extract personal information from your computer, and send it on to another computer where it will allow someone to steal your identity, and act in your name.

Also, it allows people to steal your credit card details. It is very easy for a program to recognise the exact pattern of a credit card being typed in - it can then collect all the accompanying data, such as name, address and security code. This can then be used by a hacker to make purchases that you will be left having to pay for.

Finally, spyware can be used to install dialers on your computer. These are evil programs that force your computer to connect to the Internet over a premium rate or international phone line - extorting you for huge sums of money through your phone bill! This threat is rarer due to the widespread use of broadband, but it still exists!

So, as you can see, there are some very real threats posed by adware. Not all adware is this dangerous - some is quite “benign” by comparison. This is the software that spies on you and then “helps” you by showing you “useful” adverts.

Most of this advertising is actually extremely annoying. It usually takes the form of pop-ups, which may appear every minute or so, or when you open a new window, or when you click a link. Sometimes it appears even when you are not connected to the Internet!

Some of these ads can be extremely offensive or inappropriate - such as child pornography, or illegal software cracks. This can be extremely upsetting for end users, especially on a home computer.

Finally, there is parasitic advertising, where adverts on a web site are replaced by adverts belonging to the spyware designer. This can cause problems to the website owners, who are denied income from advertisers. But it can also cause a problem for you, as you are shown adverts that appear to be from reputable companies, but are not.

So, as you can see, spyware is a massive pain in the butt. We’ve looked at the rapid growth of spyware infection, how it threatens you personally, and how it can make your computer hell to use with constant ads bombarding it. Given these threats, I suggest that you check out some spyware software reviews on the Internet to see what you can do about it!

There are security tools, such as a spyware bot that you can use to clean up your computer. This can be a considerable help, because Spyware removing can be nearly impossibly complicated when it is done by hand!

Who Can You Trust When Dating?

by Dan Sewinski

Everybody who’s fallen in love knows how easy it is to get swept off their feet and stop thinking rationally. The saying, “Love is blind” is absolutely true. Everybody has had that feeling at one time or another. There’s nothing like it. You feel like your feet hardly touch the ground and you feel more energetic and excited than you have since you were a kid.

You’ll often notice that you have a silly smile on your face for no particular reason, and you are so caught up in your feelings for the other person that you would be oblivious if the world stopped spinning. However, how confident are you that the person is really free?

What phone number do they want you to use? Will they only volunteer their cell phone number? Have you been invited back to their place? Do they sometimes need to leave urgently when the two of you are doing something?

If you stop and think about it for a few minutes, does it seem as if they are hiding something from you? This can be something that is pretty hard to take. You don’t want to think of the possibility of this person lying to you or being involved or married already. However, it happens every single day.

If you are trying to decide whether to continue your relationship with this person, you might want to watch out for certain behaviors. When you are talking on the phone or even when you are together, does it seem like they are distracted or pre-occupied with something else? Does it seem like they are always keeping an eye on the clock? Do they often have to leave suddenly when you are spending time together? If they are doing these things consistently, it might be because they are not being honest with you or their family and they are trying to juggle everything without either you or their family finding out the truth.

Have you met his or her family? If they have offered to let you meet their parents, siblings or other family, chances are they are not already involved. If it has been quite a while and they still haven’t offered for you to meet their family, you might want to use a bit of caution.

There are also websites you can browse to perform a reverse phone number lookup. There is a lot of useful information to be found on these sites, simply by entering the phone number or address. If you don’t already have it, you will be able to access their home address along with the phone number.

You can find their marriage or divorce certificates so that you know if they are married or not. You can find out if they have ever been charged with a crime and much more. This is one great way to ease your mind.

If they have no spouse, chances are that they are simply afraid to commit or they have another reason for not wanting you to meet their family. You’ll at least have the peace of mind of knowing that you’re not a home wrecker. If you’re still uncertain, don’t just toss and turn at night wondering. Follow the steps above and finally find out for sure.
